Teamwork

How many people does it take to publish a book? The name we are most familiar with, of course, is the author’s. That author often thanks their agent, their editor, and the people—friends, family, and colleagues—who supported them while they wrote.

The names you rarely hear include those of such people as the copy editor, proofreader, indexer, book designer, and marketer. But if you have a copy of Anne Curzan’s Says Who?, published by Crown, turn to the copyright page. There you will see listed the editor, editorial assistant, production editor, production manager, managing editors, copy editor, proofreader, indexer, publicist, and marketer. What a great idea! I hope other publishers pick up this idea or other authors begin to insist on it. It is wonderful to see the whole publishing team named.
